David Bean

David passed away September 8, 2022. Obit Here
From Greg Brown: He was immensely strong and yet a gentle boy. It would surprise few who knew him at all that he proved himself to be a brilliant mathematician. It was fairly apparent, in retrospect, that David was on the spectrum for autism, having generally limited social skills, but an unusual ability to focus on what interested him
There were a lot of stories about his place in the L.L. Bean family, but I can’t confirm any of that. I just know that when I boarded the bus at Tanglewood to go to the 1996 reunion David was the first person on it that I saw. I never thought he had acknowledged my existence at school, when I approached him to buy the occasional late night candy bar, but he knew my name and asked about my brother who had been at Windsor two years before I started. We all thought David lived in another world from us, but he was right there all along, just interacting with it in a different way.
Bob Adam kept in touch with David longer, I suspect than almost any of us might have more to say about him. David has been the subject of one of Bob’s poems as he has been traveling across the country.
